Wow, I am gobsmacked!! Just found out that my pastel painting “The Gold Bangle” won First Place in the Richeson75 Figure/Portrait 2016 Competition. Really appreciate what the judge, William Schneider, said about my work. Thank you to my lovely model Katrina Sherwood. I am greatly honored to be included among such great artists in this prestigious competition.
Whew! Just finished this in time to make the deadline for a competition. This is “Sea of Textures” pastel on Canson sanded paper. I wanted to do something different for this competition, as well as just to take a break from doing people. Originally, I was just going to do it in shades of gray, but I love the combination of gray tones with bits of color. Also, I felt that it needed several colors to create the look of the inner shell with that glossy translucent quality.
Excited to find out that my pastel painting “The Rose Tattoo” was chosen as Outstanding Pastel in the Bold Brush Competition for March 2016. See exhibition at http://faso.com/boldbrush/winners/178.
One oContemplation-old man-web_03.02.16f the most distinctive abilities that humans have is to contemplate, which has always fascinated me. Contemplation is to think profoundly and at length, meditate on, ponder, reflect on, consider, muse on or deliberate over. I am working on a new series of paintings that is inspired by contemplation in its many forms.
I just completed this new pastel portrait “Contemplation”. It is part of a series I am working on having to do with contemplation in its various forms. Is he thinking about his youth? Is he thinking about a lost love? Or just contemplating the beauty of the rose? This is a 14×18 pastel painting on Sennelier La Carte Pastel Card.
