I will be taking a vacation from my job for the holidays, but continuing to work on the oil portrait I was commissioned to do.  I am really enjoying the process of bringing this portrait to life. It is a process of constantly evaluating the skin tones, values, perspective and lighting, and making the necessary adjustments.  It is a very time consuming process, but well worth it for the end result.  Some artists spend months or years on a painting, but when you are working on a portrait commission, you do not have the luxury of working at  a leisurely pace.  Still, I have to let the paint dry between layers to get the right luminous effect, as practiced by the old masters.

Have a safe and happy holiday. I will resume blogging in Januray 2010.
