At this stage, I have blocked in the background and basic colors over the black/white underpainting. I started to define the face and clothing. It is already taking on a three dimensional look, which may be hard to see in the photo.
I have to say that I have come to feel really close to this dear lady. Having done the pastel portrait as a preliminary work, I am familiar with her face. But she has such a special warmth and sweetness about her that I feel a special connection with her. Certainly these feelings will help me to render her portrait and, hopefully, convey her personality and vitality.
After the paint dries for a few days, it will be ready to start the final layers, which will consist of a lot of detail work. After the actual painting work is done, the painting will also need time to dry. Still a lot of work to do, but I need to deliver this to the client before Mother’s Day.
