The third sitting went faster for another four hours. I’m not a fast painter, as I prefer to take my time in making judgements about the colors and strokes needed to get the effect I want. Blocked in the background and started to finish off the details of the hands, baby, and the texture of her sweater. It is starting to take on a three dimensional effect, but not quite there yet. Rendering her hair will make a big difference in how the figure stands out from the background, as well as how the values need to be adjusted for the face. I’m letting the color of the paper show through in many areas to provide cool tones.
I’ve decided this painting should be called “A Mother’s Joy”. That helps describe the emotion being expressed here.
