I am over the moon!! Just got word that my pastel painting “The Writer” has been accepted into the IAPS 28th Juried Exhibition to be held at the Salmagundi Club in New York City. To have my work exhibited at such a prestigious salon like the Salmagundi Club is beyond my wildest dreams.
What is interesting to me is that “The Writer” has not gotten favorable attention from recent competitions I have entered, but rather my pastel painting “The Rose Tattoo” has won a couple of awards. Yet the IAPS competition turned down “The Rose Tattoo” and accepted “The Writer”. That just shows that you never know and can’t anticipate what judges in these contests are looking for.
While pastels are not always held in the same regard as oil paintings by galleries and the public, I am hopeful that this is a sign that attitudes are changing. My personal goal is to always make my pastel paintings of the same quality as any oil painting.
